Straining to shine

Last night, in an attempt to find a bit of connection with the universe, my husband drove us out and away from the lights of towns.  We set up a telescope for the kids to enjoy, and then lay on the old sleeping bag on the ground, looking up.  It wasn't the best night for star gazing.

A layer of high level clouds had been steadily creeping across the sky.  the thick patchy clouds that had been causing a game of peek-a-boo with the stars were spreading to be just enough coverage to prevent their light from showing.  As I watch the clouds cover the stars one by one, I saw myself.  The stars were struggling to send their light to us, but the cloudy demanded their time in the sky.  As I watched one bright star, in particular, get covered first by a thin veil of clouds and later by a thick blanket  that eventually prevented the star from showing me it's light, I understood what's wrong with me lately.  I'm simply being prevented from shining as I'd like.

There are two things to you can choose to do when you are covered by clouds: first, you can try to shine brighter, or you can wait it out.  Clouds always dissipate and shining brighter may take more energy than you have, but there is also something to be said for doing all you can to make your world brighter.
