Quiet places

During the summer, it gets easy for me to forget that the rest of the world is not as noisy as my house.  Between the sounds of the kids playing cars or Lego's, movies playing in the background, footsteps on the floor, garbage trucks, weed whackers, and traffic, I get overwhelmed.

I find that it's important to remember that somewhere, probably not far from where you are, the world is quiet and serene and filled with light.  Somewhere, you can listen to leaves whisper and creeks flow.  Birds sing and your footsteps are the most disruptive thing you hear.  Remembering this, I can refocus and put noise in perspective.  Of course, it always helps to promise myself that I will actually spend some time somewhere quiet, just as soon as I get things squared away.
