The cuddle date

Tuesday night was the last PTA meeting of the year. It was also the night when one of our city council members, who is also a parent at our school, comes to speak to us about what's going on around town.  This also meant that the meeting ran late.  My kids got to bed over an hour and half past heir usual bedtime, and then had to go to school this morning. I had expected fits and tears when I woke them, but they both were really good. I am wiped out, though.  I have dozens of things to do in the next three weeks, not to mention  I feel that I ma neglecting my blogs.  I had anticipated a busy midday- the space between picking one child up at school and the return to pick up the other- of trying to catch up.

I picked Aiden up from kindergarten, and on the drive home, he said, "Mommy, I wan to have a date with you."  I asked what kind of date, expecting he was angling for a spicy quesadilla from Taco Bell.  His answer, and enthusiasm, made me laugh, "A cuddle date!"

We came home, ate lunch together, and then, we climbed into my bed and cuddled.  It was an unexpected and sweet midday activity.  It was also a good reminder about taking time for ourselves in the midst of any crisis or busy period of life.  It's also important to remember that the people around us often need just a bit of our time or attention or affection to feel secure and happy.
