Halloween again

Yesterday, the kids and I attended a Halloween party.  Yes, I know it's mid-November.  The party was for a little girl who wasn't able to celebrate Halloween because she was in the hospital.  I was really touched to see how many people turned out, the weekend before Thanksgiving (for those of us in the U.S.), in costume to celebrate with her.  Neighbors even played along for Trick-or-Treat.

This is community at it's best (check out last week's Sunday Stew for my thoughts on community).  The emotional support shown to a family through this one party is amazing.  On the surface, it was pure celebration, but underneath, it was emotional support for a sick little girl.  Because of these kind people, she got to celebrate her favorite holiday, but she will also never doubt that she is incredibly loved and has a place in her little community, and we should all feel so lucky.
