A lesson from Pluto

The last decade has revealed a great deal of information about Pluto.  It has also seen in downgraded from full fledged "planet" to "dwarf planet" by astronomers   Why?  Because nobody bothered to define planet before.  In coming up with a concrete definition of the word for scientific purposes, Pluto had to be re-categorized.

While humans were weighing and measuring and quibbling about what makes a planet, Pluto remained out their orbiting the sun, complete unchanged by the new title.  We can call things by new names, but it doesn't change the existence of that thing.  It changes ours. So next time someone is telling you to call an old thing or idea by a new name, you should be asking why they want to change your perspective.
