Midnight Mischief

You know that I will never win a "Parent of the Year" award, but I do get to have some fun sometimes when my kids misbehave.  Last night was one of those times. At midnight, Hubby and I were lying in bed reading when the bed began to vibrate; normally, as we live awfully close to the Hayward fault, this  would be a bit of a concern.  It was our little trickster sneaking under our bed to wait for the lights to go out so he could climb in bed with us.

Having been tipped off to his presence, we decided to turn the tables on his sneakiness.  We went through the motions of lying down and turning off the lights, then we sneaked out of bed and into the hall.  Waiting in the hallway, trying not to laugh, we heard him emerge from his little cave and climb up.  His sound of confusion, when he realized we weren't there as expected, was priceless.  It didn't last long.  He jumped down and headed out to the hallway, smelling a trick.  Once we were found, he laughed alongside us as we enjoyed our short lived victory.

Sometimes, life as a cartoon character is more fun than frustrating, and sometimes, it's very satisfying to embrace the Trickster gods and dance alongside as they create chaos.  Of course, when you try to trick a trickster, you should be prepared for retaliation; tonight is another night, and I will be waiting to see what revenge my little one has cooked up for me.  It is certain to be creative, funny, and educational.
