Optimism is a choice

This last couple of weeks has included many difficult discussions with my eight year old son.  So far, we've covered: The Holocaust, The sinking of the Titanic, the use of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, September 11 and gay marriage.  My son is a very sensitive soul- compassion is part of his basic nature- and talking about tragedy should be hard for him.  He feels sorrow for the victims and he has a willingness to try understand the myriad of factors that cause strife.  But the most amazing thing about this child is that he genuinely wants to change the world, and more importantly, he believes he can.

Optimism is a choice.  Action is a choice, as well.  If you can bring them together with compassion, you really can change the world.  Let someone inspire you, and then act on it. Today, I'm inspired by my son.  Today, I am choosing optimism.
