Phoenix rising- turning mistakes into something beautiful

A few weeks ago, I created a beautiful painting.  The image was amazing, but the project got out of control and i had set it aside and started over.  The damaged board sat around, a reminder of projects gone wrong .  Yesterday, in a fit of creativity, I pulled out the sand paper and black paint.  After smoothing away most of the old image, I painted it all glossy black.  Then I started again.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a new image came into being.  Similar, but distinctly different.  It felt incredibly good to take a failure and remake it into something else; something that made use of the lessons learned, something beautiful.  The sense of completion and accomplishment invigorated me and washed away some of the bitterness of mistakes.  It felt good.

Things are only mistakes and failures if we see them that way.  Changing our perspectives and approaching these experiences as opportunities to learn, to grow, to rise from the ashes, newer, stronger and more beautiful.  Damage can be repaired, stains removed or hidden, and life can go on.  Action can be cathartic, liberating and joyful, but only if we let it be.

  1. *clapclapclapclapclap* I completely agree...sometimes if we just view our mistakes as just another step...grab hold and move forward we can change our viewpoint. Great Post!
