A fire at night

Sitting around a fire last Saturday night, I was reminded again of the beauty and power and usefulness of fire. As evening fell, the bright red and oranges danced and swirled to its own music. Warmth and light as the stars twinkled overhead and cool air surrounded us.  As I watched the cinders sparkle, I felt connected to humanity.  Sharing food and stories and heat is among the most basic of human habits.

As the days grow longer and warmer, I invite you to continue tradition.  Spend some time with friends and family outdoors around a fire.  The evening meal and stories are the most important part of this tradition.  It's a great way to connect with our human past, that we all hold in common.  Regardless of where you are or where you're from, this is your heritage.  As the stars come out, remember that these are the very ones that have watched over mankind for as long as it has existed.
